Well, last year in 2018 WhatsApp rolled out the payments option as a beta testing phase in India but that testing phase got stucked, now this year WhatsApp confirms the launch of WhatsApp Payments in India.

WhatsApp Pay’s Beta 2018 testing in India reached out to a mass of 1 million users, but the Indian government then introduced the privacy regulation bill after which it prevented it from going live in the year 2018 to all the users. The beta was launched in February 2018 and it offered P2P capabilities when users linked their accounts to the bank account

WhatsApp introduced its Unified Payment Interface based money transferring platform-WhatsApp Payments with a limited user base of around 1 Million users from last February. Since then technical and regular obstacles have kept Facebook-owned social messaging app from expanding their services in the Indian region.

Earlier this month in September the rumours have spread and the sources have heard that the company had agreed to comply with norms that are prescribed by the RBI regarding the storage of payment-related data within the company. They quoted “We plan to comply with RBI guidelines. Only some engineering work is left,” a senior Facebook executive has given this statement to the ET.

Well, this means that the WhatsApp payment is soon to be launched in India this year. Also, this is seen that the company has already started working with the third-party auditors for localization of its payments-related data.

WhatsApp users in India will soon be able to use the platform not just to communicate with their family and friends but they would also be able to send and receive money using the app.
